I have a fridge overflowing with fresh produce. On Saturday, I ran my second 5K race. My body is strong and capable. I had my husband, children and family cheering me on. It’s way too easy to look for things to complain about rather than focusing on all the good things in my life. The Lord is good.
I went into my 5K with great excitement and confidence. But just a mile in I was feeling the pain and had serious doubts about my ability to finish. But in my mind, stopping wasn’t an option. So I pressed forward. My unofficial running coach talked me through the rough spots and kept the conversation going when I was too out of breath to speak. He encouraged me to make it over the last hill, and when the last straight away left me feeling dead on my feet, he held back and let me cross the finish first.
We are all on this journey together. We need to run alongside each other more often. Reminding each other to taste and see that the Lord is good. Even when the world leaves a bad flavor in our mouths. When things look dark. When that last hill feels impossible and our legs are done. We want to quit. This is when we need to support each other most.
Just a few more steps. Just a little further. It’s going to be downhill soon and you’ll be able to breathe again. I’m right next to you. You can do this. He is so good. He has held us together in the past, he’s with us right now in the present, he holds our future in his hands and he’ll guide us home.
Psalm 34: 7-8
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Congratulations on your 5K finish. Good post.
