We’ve been talking about extravagant generosity and while I believe many of us need to grow in this area, some of us need to learn to keep generosity simple.

What do a small jar of peanut butter, a hand written note card and a smile have in common? They all cost us very little in the way or time or money but can have a big impact. Click To Tweet

Don’t underestimate the power of simple. When I pick up a couple of extra items for our churches Back Pack Buddies program or the local food pantry, it is a quick, simple and small thing. It costs me hardly any time or money but helps feed someone.

A brief note sent in the mail matters. Emails count too but there is something about items in the mail written by hand that are special. Perhaps because hand written notes are such a lost art. Even a text message to tell someone you are thinking of or praying for them.

Don’t mistake short for meaningless. Even a short message can be heart felt.

A smile and good morning, or even a genuine God Bless You, as cliche as that sounds, can have an impact. As a culture, and even a church culture, we’ve relegated pleasantries to just that. We believe that because we’ve over used them, they cannot be meaningful. That is on us, to say these things and really mean it.

Find a small or simple way to be generous today. Little things matter too.
