Last week, I talked about wanting to find a way to fit exercise into my already busy holiday season. This is the time of year when I tend to let that sort of thing slide and I nearly always regret it in January. So this December, my goal was to get in 15 minutes a day of exercise, any kind of exercise, for every day in the month. I know I will probably miss a day here and there, but I wanted to make prioritizing exercise as non-negotiable as possible.

Week 1 is done and I’m feeling pretty good. Since December doesn’t divide equally into even weeks, this first week was a little longer. I managed to workout every day except one and I’m happy with that.

I started the week off with a new-to-me workout and an old favorite.

Xiphoid Process Routine

Similar to Align it Flat, this is more about learning to improve alignment than a full workout, but that’s about my pace on the average weekend anyway.

Transitions

From the new to the old, this is one of my favorite workouts back from when I first discovered Fit2B Studio. I also did this with a weighted ball. I hadn’t planned to do this, but oddly enough there were no other balls easily available, which definitely kicked it up a notch.

Basic Aerobics I

This is a recently refilm and I really enjoy it. I love the entire Basic Aerobics series and I was very excited to see this one redone. It’s a little easier and shorter than the others, but still definitely a worthwhile 15 minutes.

Insane Upper Body

I hate lifting weights but I love the effects of lifting weights. While routines like Weightlifting 101 (201 and 301) are great, they a little bit long and often too difficult for me, even when I’m in my best shape. But this workout fits me perfectly. Ideally, I’d do it every week and just keep upping the weight.

Walking Workout
I added some light weights to this workout and that made it a great full body routine. It’s not difficult, but it’s incredibly effective. (This is also a great workout if you aren’t a Fit2B Studio member because it’s free!)

Big {Little} Band & 5 Minute Calves

I love the Big {Little} Band workout but it’s a tad short, so I added the 5 Minute Calves workout from the Fit2B 5 Minute series. I really love working with bands. It gives me the strength training I like without the weights, which I don’t. I’d love to see some more of these in the future. These routines together were a great combination I will have to revisit in the future.

Basic Aerobics II
Another old favorite here, I’ll keeping doing this one for as long as it’s around, or until Beth decides it’s too dated and needs to be redone. Perfect little 15 minute cardio, ideal for this kind of daily fitness challenge.

Classic Flow A
I have to be careful of my perpetually unclosed diastasis recti when I do this, but Beth provides great suggestions for modifications and implements great breathing patterns as well to help encourage core engagement and proper alignment. As often happens with any yoga routines, I found myself surprised by how difficult this workout was, considering how slow moving and gentle it appears from the outside. Don’t be fooled, yoga is a serious workout.

I had planned one more workout this week, but I had a busy weekend and one night I didn’t realize I hadn’t worked out until it was late at night and I was exhausted. But I’m still happy with what I did accomplish. I missed a day, but you know what, the world didn’t end.

The entire point of this challenge was to keep me active at a time when I’m tempted to just let things slide. So far, it’s doing its job and helping me to keep exercise a priority, even when my holiday schedule is packed to bursting. (Hopefully, if all goes well, I won’t say the same of my pants in January).
