- Something I’m Loving
There is something about this time of year that makes me feel so optimistic. It’s when I over-plan my garden, over-buy curriculum, and will generally agree to almost everything. There have also been a number of stagnant long-term situations that seem to suddenly be making progress. So I’m feeling expectant, excited, and generally encouraged. - Something I’m Reading
I have been mostly continuing with my Duncan Kincaid/Gemma Jones mystery series, though I was a bit disappointed with A Finer Thing. It definitely didn’t hold my interest as well as the previous ones and it had some supernatural components that I wasn’t crazy about.
I finally finished the last two books that have been published in the Claire Ferguson/ Russ VanAlstyn mystery series only to discover that the final book ended with a cliffhanger! While the title of the next book was mentioned and advertised at the end, I was sad to discover that it still hasn’t been published. So I’m hoping that Julia Spencer-Fleming’s next book will be released soon! At least to satisfy my curiosity.
After getting tired of waiting for interlibrary loans, I purchased a few second-hand copies of Lady Darby mysteries but have yet to start them. I may end up saving them for my upcoming anniversary trip. - Something I’m Learning
I’ve been working hard this month on preparing for the months ahead to prevent unnecessary stress but also learning to set things aside. There are some tasks I would normally have already started both at home and at my job, but because there are too many details up in the air, I’m giving myself permission to wait. Rather than do a bunch of work that may not even be necessary or perhaps make some decisions I might later regret, I’m choosing to take a pause and trust that I’ll find the time and energy to do those things later on when I have a clearer picture. - Something I’m Eating
Sometimes you just find a weird snack and it works. I bought a fun-looking cranberry pecan snack mix with my daughter in mind only to discover it had wheat starch. (I big no-go for my Celiac girl). So I thought I’d try it, on vanilla ice cream. This is my current favorite dessert topping/combination.
As the weather changes, I can feel my eating habits change with it. We had some very unseasonably hot days this month, in the upper 80s and sometimes on a day like that, nothing brings your tempt down better than ice cream in the evening.
But also, I’ve discovered the wonders of feta cheese on salad! We’ve been having dinner before our small group and my friends who host usually make a salad and put out feta to add to it. It made me enjoy my salad so much more. And now I find myself sprinkling it over other things like eggs or burgers. It’s really lovely. (Plus now I’m eating a lot more salad.
So April began typically, was hot in the middle, cold and damp at the end (and I’m not just talking about the weather.) We have some exciting things coming up in May so I’m filled with anticipation but also very busy getting ready. But one of the things I love about doing these posts is that it reminds me of the high points of even the strangest or most ordinary months.
Oh, why do they have to put wheat in so many things? Glad you were able to find a good use for that snack, anyway. I agree, this meme is helping me to find the high points in each month, even ones that seem quite ordinary. There’s always something to celebrate.
Bethany, I think the newness of spring encourages us to look forward with Hope. I love that you’re learning to set some tasks aside. That is something I need to work on! I think most of my overwhelm stems from thinking everything has to be done NOW! Your cranberry pecan snack sounds heavenly!
Thanks for the suggestions! I bought some feta to put on my salad but wasn’t sure what else to do with it; I’ll definitely have to try it on my burgers and eggs.
Sounds like a very hope filled month. I hope May is a great month for you and yours.
Bethany, Spring motivates me as well. I love this time of year!
So you are a mystery lover – me too! But the cliffhangers are the downside to series. Oh, the impatience of waiting for the next book!
Pauses are hard for my type A personality who wants to check everything off my list. I think you are being wise to wait, though. It would be so aggravating to have to redo things just because it was hard to wait.
And, yes, to FETA! I haven’t had any in awhile, and you’ve made me hungry for it.
