I still can’t quite believe it’s May. Despite the unseasonably cold April and the unexpected heatwave making it feel like June, it seems impossible that May is nearly done. It’s been a weird month as we finish up a lot of things, try to find some normalcy but also relaxation over the summer, and plan for a, hopefully, better fall.

Something Loved

I’m getting a new bathtub! That may seem like a relatively minor thing but after the stressors of the last year and a half, taking weekly baths has been one of the few things I have to help me manage my mental health. We had already planned a tiling project that was postponed from last year due to COVID. But just a few weeks before we were about to start the project, my husband asked if I’d also like a new tub as a combined Mother’s Day and Anniversary gift. It’s been quite a journey so far, with lots of mess and it’s not done yet.

Something Read

Finally got my hands on the third Home Fires book and while I’ve decided I’m not a huge fan of this author, it is nice to see how the lives of these characters if progressing. I do wish the author had ended things with a bit more satisfaction but I imagine he wanted to leave the door open in case he decides to write another one.

I haven’t been reading a ton but now that the school year is almost over and I’m finished with the current editing round of my manuscript, I’m hoping to start devouring books over the next month or two.

Something Treasured

May weather! One of my favorite things about May is the weather. While we did have a week in the high 80’s, yuck, usually May is very moderate with sunny, breezy, warm days before the heat of summer kicks in.

I know these days won’t last, so we try to get out in them as much as possible. I wish that so much of my work wasn’t just in this house. I even welcome running errands in this weather, just for the excuse to get out for a while.

Something Ahead

We are just about finished with our school year, and I am ever so glad. This has been our loneliest homeschool year, possibly ever. Even now I’m trying to find ways for us to socialize and make new friends (or even see existing friends) just as most things are shutting down for the summer. But I’m ready for the more laid-back nature of summer days if I can let myself do it. I tend to start the fall planning as soon as we finish our evaluations, if not before. So I’m trying to give myself permission to take lots of time for myself during the month of June so I can start the fall school year refreshed and not still feeling ragged and exhausted.

While I do hope the good weather holds out a bit longer (so basically not a repeat of this week), I’m looking forward to some lazy summer days with fewer things on my calendar and a shorter daily checklist.
