It feels as though the world is about to reopen. People are venturing from their homes more often. As the weather warms, I’m out walking with my kids almost every day. I love the feel of moving outside, and through a space large than my home, unfettered by walls and seeing the beauty of the natural world close up unseparated by window glass.
People smile at each other on the street and it feels like maybe, just maybe, we are coming to the end of the worst of this crisis. (and if we’re not, being ready to find another way of coping beyond extreme isolation).
After months of being stuck in place it feels like we are finally moving forward. We may not know what exactly we are moving towards, but I think right now most of us would settle for forwarding motion of any kind.
When we’re out for our walks, sometimes all I can do is put one foot in front of the other. I’m a little out of shape but I always push myself to go a little faster and a little further each time.
As we find our way back into the light after all this time spent in darkness and loneliness, of course, there will be precautions to take. But the important thing is that we keep walking, keep moving forward.
Stagnation and inaction are only useful for a short period of time. I think for most of us, that time is at an end. We need to do something. Carefully, and advisedly, but definitely get a move on.
I look up at the sky as we round the last block and I see the coming clouds and the droplets of rain. But I won’t stop now. I’m still moving forward.
I know your heart been broke again
I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet
I know you’re feeling like you got nothing left
Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet so
Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes
Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on
And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet
– Movin, Toby Mac
Love a Toby Mac song! Not sure I share your optimistic view of coming out of lockdown yet but a great reminder not to stagnate.
Don’t know where I’m goin’,
the way, it ain’t so clear,
but Lord above, I’m hopin’
that it’s better there than here.
Don’t know the destination,
just know I gotta leave
this place of wild frustration,
step out in faith, believe
that somehow God has got this mess,
that He’s got some fine plan
to organize and then address
what was screwed up by man.
So, dear feet, go do your stuff,
for we’ve been here long enough.
I really pray we are seeing the light at the end of tunnel….looking forward to light-filled days ahead!!
Ooh you can’t go wrong with a good TobyMac song. Yes this is so true. Moving forward feels good. It makes a difference to be outside.
