“We know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrected bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God wets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of Heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.” 2 Corinthians 5:1-5 (The Message)

I’ll admit that I don’t take the time to meditate on this scripture as often as I should. I don’t know why. I think sometimes I worry that if I think too much about what is to come I’ll stop even trying to take care of what I have today. But that doesn’t have to be the case. This body is a gift, but it is a flawed and imperfect one. Someday I will be given a new body, a perfected one that will never fail me.

So what can I do in the mean time? Take care of what I have been given. This means exercise, medical care when needed, healthy diet and taking the time to enjoy this body and the good things it has to offer.

Inspiration I’ve Imbibed

When I become frustrated with the inabilities or perceived flaws of my body and I take hope in knowing that someday I won’t have to cope with these problems anymore.

Challenges I’ve Pursued

Get Dressed! Make the most of the body you have been given and learn to love it. Focus on your better features and be grateful for those. But when you feel the pain of aging joints or discouragement with a softening waistline, remember that better things are coming.
